On Mother’s Day, I’d like to take a moment to thank my child.
Being a mother will always be my greatest accomplishment in life. And because I don’t believe in leaving anything unsaid, here’s what I’d like to say to Bobby today:
Son, because of you, every day, I wake up to the best job in the world: being your mom.
While life is full of disappointments, obstacles, and sadness, you are none of those things, and I would be completely remiss if I did not thank you for being smart, funny, reasonable and handsome.
The best part of my day each week during the school year is driving you to school in the morning.
Especially when I get you there on time because you do not tolerate lateness.
On these mornings, we talk, have mini adventures and you always say something to lift me up. I try hard to return that favor—returning a positive word or a kind gesture to at least one other person throughout my day—and I would like to thank and acknowledge you for being that catalyst.
Grammy set a very high standard in the mom department. I know that I am not (and don’t have the energy to try to be) on her level of mom-ing, but I appreciate you for accepting me for what I am and also for what I am not—and for making me happy every day.
I love you and thank you for the very best job in the world. ❤️?

I remember when he thought he might come early as we were watching RENT on Broadway. I’m glad he decided to wait.
You’re a great mother and he’s a great kid. <3
